Where there is no fire service, we help to establish one
We support communities in Tanzania and Kenya in establishing effective fire departments. Through training, equipment, and sustainable infrastructure, we ensure long-term safety and strengthen local emergency response teams.
What it's like when no help comes
You’re in Kenya, on the highway between Nairobi and Nakuru. An accident occurs amid overloaded trucks and crowded minibuses. You’re trapped, bleeding heavily, and time is running out. You have a phone, but there’s no central emergency number. Passersby call the cell phone number of the nearest fire station.
The Nakuru Fire Department will leave in half an hour, provided the truck has enough diesel. The drive to your location takes an hour.
During this hour and a half, most critically ill patients die trapped in their vehicles.
Unfortunately, such situations are not uncommon on the roads of Kenya and Tanzania. Poor road conditions, old vehicles, and constant overloading lead to many serious accidents. In addition, fires, floods, and other accidents are a daily occurrence.
Fire and emergency services are currently being established in the region, but they are still far from meeting European standards.
Saving lives starts with training
Rescuing people from burning buildings, raging floods, extreme heights and depths, and crashed vehicles requires specialized training and ongoing practice. Our mission is to bring self-help initiatives to East Africa; we train local rescue teams and lay the groundwork for a robust, self-sustaining training program.
For a fire department to function properly, it needs vehicles and equipment. In Germany, we source the necessary supplies and procure the right vehicles for use in distant East Africa.
Together, we save lives every day through our training and the materials we provide. Learn more about us and our projects here on our website.
